Projekts MCR is embarking on a Manchester-wide skateboard development project to help improve the lives of young women in the city. You will plan, coordinate and deliver this project, engaging young women to tackle negative gender stereotyping, supporting personal development and encouraging healthy choices, whilst also addressing underrepresentation of young women in skateboarding.
Projekts MCR is a not-for-profit organisation centred around people and skateboarding. Skateboarding is a focal point for community, creativity and culture and we aim to give as many people as possible the opportunity to try it by providing easier access through schools, excellent coaching classes for all ages and better places to skateboard.
Projekts is starting a new project with local youth charity GMYN to use skateboarding to engage young Manchester women to tackle negative gender stereotyping, offer leadership courses and training with the aim of building confidence and resilience, supporting personal development and encouraging healthy choices, whilst also addressing the underrepresentation of young women in skateboarding.
This role entails working with all members of the Projekts and the GMYN team to coordinate and deliver this project.
The successful candidate will be able to work on their own initiative to varied deadlines, have outstanding communication skills and proven experience of engaging young people to take part in development and social activities, and/or have a track record in developing young women’s participation in sporting activities.
This is a 32 hours a week, part time role. The post is funded for 2 years.
The hours of work are those necessary to fulfill the requirements of the role. This will involve working some unsocial hours in evenings and at weekends, as well as during the day.
The post will be based at based at Projekts Skatepark, in Manchester City Centre as well as GMYN’s office on Ardwick Green North.
The Development Worker will be expected to work within the principles of equal opportunities and to implement all aspects of Projekts Equal Opportunities policy and GMYN’s Equality and Diversity policy.
The post will be subject to an enhanced DBS check.
